Discover Tab

The Discover Tab brings access to a catalog of high-quality, informal content to your Students. Organized across a wide variety of topics, this content has been professionally curated by a team of content experts, academics, subject matter experts and pop-culture celebrities, all of whom are dedicated to assisting in the discovery of meaningful, informal learning resources that help your Students grow.

Our unique approach to curation has sourced, reviewed, approved, tested and implemented tens of thousands of individual videos, blog posts, articles, books and podcasts in an effort to help you address your Students' learning needs. We’ve sequenced these assets into topic-based paths and organized them by topic to provide the kind of context that makes information stick. Unlike paid content, our curated paths are designed to mimic the way your learners consume content on their own time (and during the estimated 9+ hours a week learners waste at work trying to identify good content online) and have proven to be much more engaging. The Discover Tab brings this new functionality into your account, for free, from our public-facing catalog, called Catcat. Learn all about Catcat here.

The Discover Tab is available in your account via the left navigation menu:

Discover Tab Home Page

When a Student clicks on the Discover Tab for the first time, they'll encounter an Opt-in pop-up screen. After clicking the "OK, I'm Ready To Discover" button in the pop-up, the Discover page displays a set of Featured paths at the top of the page, followed by paths of content that have been featured in the past:

At the top of the page, you'll notice a row of Topic names. These can be scrolled using the arrow icons at the left and right ends of the names.

Topic Page

When a Topic link is clicked, the Topic page displays:

All paths related to the Topic will show on the page.

Accessing a Curated Path

A Student may click any displayed Path (on the Home or Topic pages) to access the Path view, just like for any other Path they've accessed before. Afterwards, they'll see the card view of the Path:

The Path will then show up under the Student's My Library page, just like all the other content they've accessed in the account.

Adding Curated Content

Students can add their own curated content at any time by clicking the "+" (plus) button at the bottom right of the Discover Tab Home or Topic pages:

After the plus button is clicked, the Student will see a pop-up notifying them that they are leaving their company's learning environment and will need to log into Catcat, where the content they are adding will reside:

After logging in, the Student will reach the Catcat site. Upon their initial visit, they'll be asked to personalize their learning experience (using Topic Onboarding):

Finally, the Student will encounter an interactive editor for adding Path content to the public catalog. The editor provides a subset of the features that an admin uses to define a Path in their private account, but in a very user-friendly format:

The editor displays a WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) display, making it easy to add or change elements to the Path. Using the editor, a Student can edit:

  1. Hero Image - a JPG, PNG or GIF file with recommended dimensions of 2400 x 650 px (max size 10 MB). An optional mobile image may be uploaded as well (640 x 360 px, 3 MB max size).
  2. Path Title
  3. Path Description
  4. Section Title
  5. Section Description
  6. Add Activity button - it's easy to add a link activity (only) to the Path via this button
  7. Add a new section - Add additional sections by clicking this link
  8. Difficulty level - Beginner, Intermediate or Advanced
  9. Add Topics button - assign topic(s) to this Path
  10. Cover Art - a JPG, PNG, or GIF file with recommended dimensions of 525 x 295 px
  11. Publish - switching this "On" will add this Path to a moderation queue for review

Here's an example of a Student-built Path that's been "published" and awaiting moderation:

Once the Path has been created, the Hero Image, Path title, Path description, Section titles, Section descriptions, Difficulty level, Topics and Cover Art can all be edited directly via the editor. To edit the activities in any section, clicking the three-dot icon next to an activity title brings up a pop-up menu, where the Student may view, edit or remove the activity. When an activity is in edit mode, its Name, Description, duration, Difficulty level, Cover Art, Publisher, Author and Published on date may be edited, or the activity may be deleted.

The Discover Tab brings free, curated content to your audience so that they may spend their valuable time learning instead of searching for relevant content. By unleashing the full power of the Discover Tab on your learners, you'll provide them with an evolving and constantly improving learning experience that will never get stale.
