Falcon Release - Migration of Legacy Content

Migration of Legacy Content

To ensure that all of your current courses, resources, and enrollments transition seamlessly into the new ‘Activities’ design, we will be migrating your legacy content into corresponding activity types.

Course content can be made up of a combination of SCORM/AICC packages, videos, files, links, events, and assessments. In the past, this course content had to be constructed in the form of Self-Paced, ILT, or Learning Path courses. Now, each course content type can be a standalone Activity or a cluster of Activities within a Path.

During the migration, the simplest distinction to make about how your courses will migrate over is whether or not the course has more than one content item mapped to it. If it does, the course will migrate into a Path with multiple Activities. If not, the course will reflect in the New UI as a standalone corresponding Activity.

To demonstrate the data migration and how it may operate for your current courses, we have provided some examples below, first with what we will call ‘multi-activity’ courses, or courses housing more than one content item required for completion.

‘Multi-Activity’ Migration

Example 1:

A Self-Paced Course with resources mapped to it becomes a Path containing the SCORM file as the primary content and the resources (files, docs, links) in an optional section.

Legacy UI:

Admin

Student

New Activity Display:

Admin

Student

Example 2:

A Self-Paced Course with two or more resources and a confirmation button becomes a Path containing a Self-Post Activity with a Confirmation Button and the two + Resources in an Optional Section below.

 Legacy UI:

Admin

Student

New Activity Display:

Admin

Student

Some other potential ‘multi-activity’ combinations and how they will migrate in the new release:

Legacy Data  Becomes →  _____ In New UI

  • Self Paced with 1 video and assessment BECOMES → Path with assessment as final activity and video as optional activity
  • Self Paced with 1 video and resources(s) BECOMES → Path with video as mandatory activity and resource(s) as optional activity
  • Path without resources BECOMES → Path, exactly the same
  • Path with resource(s) BECOMES → Path, the same but with activity(ies) inserted in optional section
  • Self Paced with 1 resource and assessment BECOMES → Path with assessment as final activity and resource as optional activity

Legacy Data may also be housed in the LMS as ‘single-activity’ courses, meaning courses with one content type or item needed for completion. These courses will transition with a one to one relationship to Activities in the New UI, migrating to the corresponding Activity depending on the type of content.

 ‘Single-Activity’ Migration

Example 1:

A Self-Paced Course with a single SCORM package will become a File Activity with the same branding and instructions as the course as applicable. Course content for individual Activities is managed under Properties in the new UI.

 Legacy UI:

Admin

Student

New Activity Display:

Admin

Student

Example 2:

A Self-Paced Course with a video and confirmation button will become a File Activity with confirmation enabled.

Legacy UI:

Admin

 Student

New Activity Display:

Admin

Some other potential ‘single-activity’ combinations and how they will migrate in the new release:

Legacy Data  Becomes →  _____ In New UI

  • Instructor Led Course with or without Sessions BECOMES → Event with or without Sessions
  • Empty Self Paced Course BECOMES → Self Post without confirmation
  • Course Aicc with nothing BECOMES → File Activity
  • Self Paced with 1 link resource BECOMES → Link Activity without confirmation
  • Self Paced with 1 file resource and confirmation button BECOMES → File Activity with confirmation

Pre and Post-Assessments

Because the upcoming Falcon release allows the mapping of  multiple Assessments to a single Path, Assessments and Pre-Assessments are an exception to the ‘multi-activity’ versus ‘single-activity’ rule. Instead, Post-Assessments will migrate as standalone Assessments or as single Assessments within a Path depending on the set up in the ‘old’ Exceed.

If an Assessment has been enabled as a Pre and Post Assessment within a Course, this data will automatically migrate into a Path with two Assessments, one allowing an exemption from the remaining Course Content.

An example of what a Path with a Pre and Post Assessment might look like after the release:
